Cafe Supervisor Required at Illycaffe in London

We are looking for a confident Cafe Supevisor to join our team!

The position is concerned with the efficient management of the branch under the direction of the General Management; with the implementation of established practices and policies of the company (including the job descriptions of subordinates); with the objective of maximising customer satisfaction and profitability.


Personnel Management:

Management of all branch staff including full communication with the Relief Branch Manager.

Responsibilities include:

  • Filling of vacancies by consultation with other Branch Managers, General Management and in the last resort employment agencies.
  • Interviewing and hiring (including completion of starter's detail slip).
  • Induction (review of Employee's job description preliminary on the job training and monitoring of progress).
  • On-going training to ensure Employee's work complies with job description.
  • Evaluation of Employee progress with full feed-back to Employee.
  • Development of Employee with recommendation of promotion/salary review to General Management.
  • Thorough and regular one to one communication with Employees.
  • Welfare and counselling.
  • Discipline.
  • Grooming and presentation.
  • Health & Safety and Sickness Administration.


Accurate and timely administration including personnel management, food and beverage ordering, linen control, staff rotas and reporting of weekly payroll details.

Maintenance & Hygiene:

To ensure the sufficient supply, upkeep, and cleanliness of all items in the restaurant. To carry out the above with the use of routine inspections.

Food & Beverage Hygiene:

To ensure rigorous attention to food and beverage hygiene in line with legal requirements and good handling practice.

Food & Beverage Service

  • To ensure that all items served are up to the required standards of quality, freshness and presentation.
  • To ensure that all items are served courteously, efficiently and in a friendly manner.
  • To warmly welcome customers, seating them or directing them to seats and thanking them on their departure.


  • To ensure that thorough control is exercised over all financial transactions, and that all stocks are properly used and can be accounted for.
  • To ensure that cash handling staff, and all staff with access to the till have presented formal identification before first starting work.

Cash Handling:

To carry out cashiering duties as set out in the company's cash-handling policy.


Through observation of the operation and feedback to General Management and communication with staff to work together to improve all aspects of the branch.

Licensing Laws:

Alcoholic beverages may be served only to people over 18 years of age who are taking a meal between 11.00 and 24.00 from Monday to Saturday and 12.00 to 23.30 on Sundays and Good Friday. It is an offence to serve alcohol to an intoxicated person.

Opening and Closing Procedure:


To perform any other duties as required by General Management. All Employees may be required to transfer to any other branch or to change hours of work if necessary either on a temporary or permanent basis.
