Park Plaza is renowned for creating memorable moments through its inspiring service, stylish guest rooms and versatile meeting facilities which are perfectly complemented by award-winning restaurants and bars.

As part of PPHE Hotel Group, the group operates hotels in London and other select international resort destinations, including Berlin, Amsterdam and Croatia. We caught up with Audrey Walker, Human Resources Business Partner for Park Plaza Sherlock Holmes, London Park Royal and Victoria London, to find out what it’s like working for this international group.



With 10 year’s experience under her belt working in an Operational and HR role for a private equity firm in the Channel Islands, Audrey joined the Park Plaza Human Resources team in early 2017. “I always worked between hospitality and retail,” Audrey explains. “It’s mainly the people - anything that involves guest service and customer satisfaction, that’s what satisfies me. It’s that side of hospitality I enjoy the most.”

Audrey joined an established HR team at Park Plaza, overseeing the UK hotels based in London, Nottingham and Leeds. In addition to managing HR for the hotels themselves, the Park Plaza HR team also oversee recruitment for the restaurants on each site. This includes a diverse selection of dining spots, such as pan-Asian ‘Chino Latino’, Italian-inspired ‘TOZI’, all-day dining ‘Florentine’, French classic ‘Brasserie Joel’, and the distinctly British ‘OAKS Restaurant’. Audrey’s previous experience made her well-suited for the role of HR Business Partner. However, for those looking to explore a career in HR at Park Plaza, the team has a strong focus on internal progression from the position of HR Officer through to HR Manager. 



So what qualities do the team look for when hiring new staff? “Personality, passion, individuality and trust are all things that we look for in our employees,” explains Audrey. Given that their staff are all given the same introduction and platform to start from, the HR team at Park Plaza are also looking for self-motivated individuals who are interested in building their career within the group. “We have our brand standards, but you still have that unique feel within each property. You can have a personality within the business as well”. The same goes when the team are hiring for their wide selection of Park Plaza restaurants: “There’s still the same high standards, but different types,” says Audrey, making it essential to find the right people with energy and passion for each unique restaurant.



“It is a massive group,” Audrey emphasises, as we discuss how personal development is supported in a business of its size. “But we offer progression across all our properties [and career levels]. We do really focus on individuality. It’s allowing each person to have a voice, and progressing them to where they want to go.” Career progression is open to anyone. Whether an individual has their sights on moving between departments at one hotel or developing their career internationally, Park Plaza’s HR programmes are designed to help them get there.
