Hospitality Events Digest inploi Team | 13.10.2016


Welcome to inploi's latest Hospitality Events Digest - bringing you the latest news from London's hospitality industry!

October and November are busy months for the UK hospitality calendar, with various events and award ceremonies taking place across the country. Some of the most recent events include The Restaurant Show (and National Chef of the Year awards ceremony at the same event), which inploi attended, as well as the Good Hotel Guide 2017 announcement, The Big Hospitality Conversation and Caterer’s People Awards.

Several hashtags also received prominence, including #InternationalCoffeeDay (1 October, which followed #NationalCoffeeDay on 29 September), #LondonCocktailWeek (3-9 October) and #NationalChocolateWeek (10-16 October).

Here are three more events on the 2016 hospitality calendar to look forward to!


Front of House Festival

The Front of House Festival, hosted by Springboard, takes place from 17-21 October. According to Springboard’s Careerscope website “the Festival aims to raise the profile of job opportunities in front of house and the waiting profession, as well as the career paths, progression routes and great rewards on offer”.

Each day of the Front of House Festival is dedicated to a specific job role, with a celebratory race taking place in Hyde Park on National Waiters Day (which also coincides with International Chefs Day!) being the highlight of the week. The programme for the week is as follows, with inploi partnering with Springboard to help spread the word through our social media channels:

Monday – Barista Day

Tuesday – Front of House & Guest Services

Wednesday – Leisure/Tourism Visitor Services

Thursday – National Waiters Day

Friday – Drinks & Beverages

EatOut Magazine Awards

The EatOut Awards takes place on 1 November at The Gable, Moorgate London. 

17 awards will be made, and include the Best All Day Menu, Best Use of Technology, Brand of the Year, Charity Initiative, Development Chef Award, Marketing/Social Media and something inploi is particularly passionate about, namely Recruitment Campaign/Retention!

Some of last year’s winners include Ed’s Easy Diner, Edwardian Group London, Harvester and Yo! Sushi.

UK Restaurant Manager of the Year

Entries for this competition are open until 14 October 2016. It is run by the Academy of Food & Wine Service and The Caterer. Anyone that “fulfils the role of a Restaurant Manager is welcome to enter’’. The Awards Ceremony takes place on 14 November. For the entry criteria and to enter, visit the Restaurant Manager of the Year competition website.

Other events to look out for are the Hospitality Exchange in Belfast (18-19 October), as well as the European Pizza and Pasta Show at Olympia, London (9-10 November).
